Peyronie’s Disease

Health InfoThis male pathology, also known as penile curvature, often generates great anxiety and many psychological problems in the man who suffers. It occurs when a plaque or scar develops in the corpora cavernosa (responsible for producing an erection) and / or in the tunica albuginea that surrounds them. Consequently, the area where the scar is created layer (fibrosis) loses its elasticity and cause an erection, the male member is bent in that direction.

It can cause the following problems or symptoms:

- Pain in the penis during erection.

- Difficulties in sexual relations because of the curvature or lack of rigidity.

- Shortening or narrowing of the penis.

- Impotence.

Is easily detected by scanning, noting the top of the penis and, in some cases, the sides hardened.

Its causes are not known for sure. However, it is known that usually appears after the fifty years of age but can occur in younger people.

Peyronie’s disease is difficult to cure, and no single treatment that has proven to be effective in all patients. Furthermore, this disease has evolved very variable. In some men the fibrous plaque decreases or even disappears. In contrast, in other cases the curvature increases over time.

In any case, treatment will aim to relieve pain and correct the curvature of the penis. This treatment will extend from the intake of drugs to surgery.
